The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN-BIS) is organized by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) annually to coincide with the ASEAN Summit. ASEAN BIS brings together private and public sector organizations, government representatives and captains of industry from within and outside ASEAN for dialogue and networking, and provides an interactive platform to advance industry and business in the region.
This year, the 2010 ASEAN-BIS is tentatively scheduled to be held on 28-29 October 2010 alongside the 16th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam!
- ASEAN-BAC has organised six ASEAN Business and Investment Summits (ASEAN-BIS) coinciding with the annual ASEAN Summits, as the avenue to promote public and private sector partnership. The ASEAN-BIS reviews and identifies measures to facilitate and promote the ASEAN economic initiatives cooperation and integration.
- The last ASEAN-BIS event was conducted on 25–27 February 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand, and held with the theme “People-to-People: Commitment towards ASEAN Prosperity”. The significance of the 2008 ASEANBIS is bolstering the first year implementation of the AEC Blueprint and taking up the concerns and responses of the private sector on the global financial and economic crisis.
- The 2007 ASEAN-BIS event was held on 16-18 Nov 2007, Singapore. The theme of the Summit was “One ASEAN at the Heart of Dynamic Asia”. Consistent with ASEAN’s objective in enhancing cooperation with the international community, the Business Summit saw the participation of delegates from ASEAN and its key trading partners
- From 7-11 December 2006 in Cebu, the 2006 ASEAN Business & Investment Summit was held with the theme of the 12th ASEAN Summit “One Vision, One Identify, One Community”, with the sub-theme “One Caring and Sharing Community – Bringing ASEAN Business to the World”
- The 2005 ASEAN-BIS was held on 10-11 December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur. The theme of the Summit is “One Vision, One Identify, One Community–Beyond Borders: Developing ASEAN’s Competitive Advantages” followed by a Special Leaders’ Dialogue session
- The 2004 ASEAN-BIS was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 27-28 November 2004, with a focus in promoting cross-ASEAN business and investment partnerships in tourism and agriculture. The theme of the event was “Leveraging on Agriculture and Tourism to Promote ASEAN Economic Integration”
- The Inaugural ASEAN-BIS was held on 5-7 October 2003 in Bali, Indonesia with the theme “Opportunities Brought About by ASEAN and its Partnership”.
ASEAN-BIS has on average brought a total of 700 to 1000 delegates generating mainly ASEAN member countries, dialogue partners and the rest of the world.
